CGI:IRC 0.5.9 (2006/06/06)

What is this?

This is a Web based interface to IRC (Internet Relay Chat), to be used for real-time discussion between IGF participants. Note: On 11 November, the Rio host presented an official chat and Webcast page. This does not supersede that service, but is likely to remain available for longer.

How do I use it?

Just type a nickname and click "Login". But for a much better experience, consider downloading an IRC program for your computer, such as mIRC for Windows, Colloquy for Mac OS X and XChat for Linux (many others are available). Then simply connect that program to the #igf channel on the chat.freenode.org network.

Will it be used at the plenary sessions of IGF meetings?

Not officially, although it has been suggested to the Secretariat.

Can I create my own #igf-* channel?

Sure. The Freenode administrators have recognised the IGF community as the administrators of any channel that begins with #igf- which includes the main #igf channel for discussion in English, as well as channels for the other official UN languages.

By default, discussion is unmoderated, but those wishing to host moderated chat sessions and/or create their own private channels are welcome to contact the Online Collaboration Dynamic Coalition for more details of how to do so.
